The Department of School Education spearheads innovation in the education system

LAHORE – School Education Department (SED), Punjab is the second largest department in terms of administrative extensions, employing 400,000 teachers in over 48,000 schools across Punjab. SED is now releasing highlights of its major accomplishments and initiatives from 2018 to date.

Punjab has one of the largest education systems in the world and has a tremendous opportunity to move towards a better future by transforming its educational structures. Therefore, building a strong and well-performing education system was identified as a key objective by the government in 2018; with the aim of increasing investment in human capital in the country.

Building on this mandate, the Punjab Ministry of Education began working diligently to identify gaps and design impact-oriented interventions to improve the system, which would later trickle down to overall educational outcomes. of the province. The government started working towards three goal posts; improving access, equity and governance in the school education environment in Punjab.

HRMIS: With the injunction to eliminate extortion and corruption, leaders galvanized the development of an integrated human resource management information system (HRMIS). HRMIS has brought process transformation, enabling transparent and efficient management of teacher transfers, promotions, leaves and retirements. The system also included electronic submission of RCA; the annual assessment of teachers and field training. Extensive digitization has enabled the department to eliminate corruption from billions of rupees each year. To date, 3,550,381 leaves and 7,559 retirements have been processed electronically. 162,341 teacher transfer requests were received and a total of 81,577 transfer orders were processed. Similarly, a total of 74,352 license applications were received and 44,770 licenses were issued to private schools, providing income of over PKR 80 million to the public treasury. In addition, 434,746 ACRs were submitted electronically, eliminating the margins of corruption and nepotism, which were widespread in a traditional paper-intensive and people-intensive system. SNC: Another key policy initiative of the PTI leadership is the Single National Curriculum (SNC), which aims to close the gap in education quality based on the socio-economic background of students.
