CAIRO – July 29, 2018: About 100,000 teachers will receive special training on Japan’s new education system from July 29 to August 19, according to the Ministry of Education.
The Ministry of Education is preparing the new education system, which will be implemented in the 2019 school year. About 2.5 million children will benefit from the new system as it is based on standardized curricula and a different assessment mechanism for kindergarten and first grade children.
The Ministry of Education said the training will also be offered to mentors and school principals and will end on September 1.
The ministry added that the training aims to sustainably develop teachers and teach them how to use different pedagogical methods of teaching a multidisciplinary curriculum. The new educational system is based on the multidisciplinary curriculum, where each teacher is responsible for teaching several subjects, contained in a book, to be able to follow the progress of the students.
In the same context, officials from the Ministry of Education pointed out that 1,250 teachers will be chosen on August 4 to teach in Japanese schools.
The ministry further explained that teachers will also be trained in the activities of Tokkatsu, which is a Japanese educational activity that develops students’ sense of community and responsibility to society and school life through classroom activity and class, student council, club activity and school events. .
Additionally, the activity works on achieving balanced social, emotional, and educational growth for students, and enhances their spirit of cooperation with others to cultivate a balanced mindset in students.
The schools will focus on teaching the Egyptian curriculum, while implementing some distinctive features of Japanese education, such as the emphasis on music, arts and group games, as well as the teaching of cleanliness and autonomy.
The fees, however, will cost more than other international schools, the Ministry of Education has not yet given an exact figure but it is believed that the fees will exceed LE 5,000, with additional expenses for activities.
Japanese schools will not teach Japanese language to students. Instead, they will study the same curriculum as other international schools.
Earlier, the Egyptian Ministry of Education said that teachers would soon be chosen to be trained in the Japanese education system, Tokkatsu, which will be implemented in 40 Egyptian-Japanese schools in different governorates in September.
The sources added that 20,000 teachers have applied to the ministry to receive training from Japan’s Tokkatsu education system.
