BALI— Education Minister Dr. Hamad Al-Sheikh hailed the Kingdom’s achievements in reforming the education system.
“There have been great improvements in learning outcomes and the preparation of the education system to meet labor market needs and prepare students for future jobs.”
In his speech to the G20 education ministers meeting on Thursday, Dr. Al-Sheikh highlighted several aspects of the Kingdom’s commitment to education reform.
Reforms included improving school readiness by expanding equitable access to high-quality early childhood education.
The ministry built new classrooms, partnered with the private sector, engaged all education stakeholders, and hired and trained early childhood teachers.
Through the development of study programs and study plans, the Minister stressed the importance of strengthening the basic skills of students.
In addition, he stressed, the importance of fostering the alignment of education with labor market needs by introducing multiple streams in secondary education that support skills development.
He also mentioned the inclusion of practice-based learning opportunities, remedial learning, and a term system that accommodates more school days for extracurricular activities.
The minister reviewed the Kingdom’s experience in dealing with the COVID-19 crisis. To mitigate the effects of the pandemic on education, the ministry has activated modern digital alternatives through platforms, apps and TV channels.
He also detailed how these alternatives supported the continuation of the educational process effectively for all students.
One of the most important goals is to prepare future generations of highly skilled and knowledgeable young people to compete globally, Dr. Al-Sheikh explained.
He also noted the efforts made to educate people with disabilities and create an appropriate educational environment for them.
Dr. Al-Sheikh thanked Indonesia for hosting the G20 Ministerial Meeting and organizing its activities in line with education priorities of global importance.
He commended the efforts made by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology to lead the discussions and share the results of the Education Working Group.
Concluding his address, the Minister stressed the importance of education as a major driver of development and a fundamental right. He also stressed the importance of international collaboration to develop new modern global perspectives and policies to ensure a meaningful and sustainable future for all. — SPA
