NEW YORK, August 22, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — Back to school means more than new pencils and backpacks. Students are also returning to an education system they are increasingly failing, says André Bernstein, Ph.D., who taught middle school and some high school classes for 30 years. During that time, he says, he witnessed his students’ academic preparation decline to the point that he no longer assigns essays to his philosophy students.
Compared to students from other countries, American children continue to perform well below students from countries such as Singapore, Japan, hong kong and Finland in reading, science and mathematics. “We have arrived at this disastrous state of education for one fundamental reason: the schools of education, the state departments of education and the federal Department of Education form what the historian Arthur Bestor called an ‘Interdependent Leadership’ of professional educators who militantly oppose academic training as the proper basis for schooling,” Bernstein said.
Bernstein has been interviewed on hundreds of radio shows, including by legends such as Barry Farber, Bob Grant, Mark Scott, and others – and have appeared on several top TV shows, including by Neil Cavuto. He is the author of the next book, Why Johnny still can’t read or write, spell or understand math – and what we can do about it.
In an interview, he can answer questions such as:
- Why do so many children have difficulty reading?
- What can we do to “fix” the playback problem?
- Why do American students know so little about math and history?
- Why do American students perform poorly, compared to children from other countries, on international tests?
- What can we do to address poor overall school performance and ensure that American children learn plenty of math, literature, history, and science?
