On Monday, male secondary school students in Bauchi state protested against a new policy introduced by the state government, separating boys and girls.
The protesting students halted commercial activities as they marched along the main streets towards the Emir’s Palace and the headquarters of the Ministry of Education to air their grievances.
The students held up placards with various inscriptions against the new education system.
Some of them who spoke to reporters said the new system would cause students to lag behind in social interaction.
So they appealed to the state governor, Bala Mohammed, to reverse the decision and revert to the old mixed system which they say promotes social interaction.
Efforts to get a reaction from the state education commissioner, Dr Aliyu Tilde, failed because his phone line was down at the time of this report.
The punch reported that Tilde recently announced that the state government has decided to separate male and female students in all secondary schools in the state.
