Fayemi: Why we urgently need to revamp our education system

Kayode Fayemi, Governor of Ekiti and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), said there was an urgent need to revamp the country’s education system.

He said this on Monday at the official launch of the Innovation Development and Effectiveness in Skills Acquisition (IDEAS) project in Abuja.

The IDEAS project is a program organized by the Federal Ministry of Education in partnership with the World Bank. The World Bank is supporting participating states with a $200 million credit facility for implementation.

The participating states are Abia, Benue, Edo, Ekiti, Gombe and Kano.

Fayemi, who was represented by Olabimpe Aderiye, Ekiti Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, spoke on the topic, “Re-engineering the Nigerian Mind from White Collar to Blue Collar Enterprises,” urged the parties sector stakeholders to develop a new approach to education in the country.

“Generally speaking, education is an essential aspect of civilization and it is an impetus for individual and societal growth and development,” he said.

“Therefore, no contemporary nation can play games with its education system, because the education system of a country will tell a lot about its progress.

“The education system bequeathed to us by our colonial masters and the current education system in Nigeria are gradually being overtaken by civilization and technological advancement, manifesting itself in artificial intelligence, automated robotics, etc., thus resulting in a disruption of the education policy and labor market congestion. , with its accompanying vices.

“From this point of view, there is therefore an urgent need to reorganize our education system to provide solutions to the avalanche of challenges that we face as a nation.

“It is high time that we tackle the threat with strong determination for a paradigm shift from white to blue collar workers.”

Adamu Adamu, Minister of Education, in his address, thanked the World Bank for its support to the country under the IDEAS project.

He said the project would help the country improve its economy, adding that the workshop would support the capacity of monitoring and evaluation officers to effectively carry out their designated roles.
