Authorities urged to leverage career education in the education system

Mr. Papi-Paulo Zigah, Director of International Operations of Future Careers Ghana, called on the authorities to leverage career education in the Ghanaian education system.

He explained that career education is about the development of knowledge, skills and attitudes through a planned program of learning experiences in education and training settings that will help students take informed decisions about their life, education or work options, and enable participation in working life.

Mr. Zigah said so while speaking on the topic, “The Importance of Career Education for the Ghanaian Child”, during the 15th edition of the Ghana News Agency, Tema Industrial News Hub Stakeholder Engagement.

The pledge is an initiative of the regional office of GNA-Tema as a progressive media caucus platform for state and non-state actors to address national issues.

“We have reached the point where we need to educate the public about this, that higher education is not about college, it is about any opportunity to help you gain skills and knowledge relevant to a specific profession “, added Mr. Zigah.

He said it simply offered the child the opportunity to build their professional education through their own natural abilities through guidance.

Mr Zigah said career education helps students reflect on their ambitions, interests, strengths and abilities, as well as better understand options, pathways, the job market and employment. , and connect them to what they know. themselves.

He explained that this has led to a variety of positive outcomes as students’ performance improves, such as improved confidence and positive attitude in career-related decision-making, behaviors in career exploration and much more to complement the current education system.

He said helping students know their interests, abilities and goals; understanding the fundamentals of the trades and gaining career planning knowledge and skills were key to preparing them for the future.

“If you know what you want to be, you can develop your own skills, there are lots of online courses you can take to put yourself in a position where you can deliver in that particular profession or profession,” he said.

He said the structure instills in students the knowledge they need to obtain a meaningful career, adding that there is a need to give young Ghanaians career guidance and access to quality information to make informed choices for their careers. coming.

Mr Zigah said preparing students for the future would require all teachers to work to provide students with the knowledge and skills to manage their studies and careers.

He called for the training of educators to be involved in the design of the lessons; infuse professional knowledge into academic course content; organize more career practice activities for students.
